Pre-screen Pokemon ruthlessly
Pokemon grades are unforgiving. A PSA 10 requires effectively perfect centering, sharp corners, no print lines, and no whitening. Check under a 10× loupe in daylight:
- Centering: 55/45 or better on the front, 75/25 on back for PSA 10.
- Edges: any silver or yellow whitening on a holo border = 8 max.
- Surface: Charizard and Pikachu cards are notorious for print lines through the holofoil. Tilt under light.
- Back: Pokemon graders are strict on back centering and roller lines.

Packaging Pokemon for submission
- Penny sleeve every card, holo side facing the sleeve's seam side.
- Card Saver I — never top loaders.

- Never tape directly to the card. Painter's tape on the Card Saver only.

Pokemon-specific pitfalls
- Holo bleed. Vintage holos often have a faint rainbow line along the holo edge — PSA grades this as print defect.
- 1st Edition stamp position. Off-center stamps drop the grade.
- Whitening on black borders. Death for Neo and EX-era cards. Grade only crisp copies.
