Not every card is worth $36 and 5 months of waiting. These are the categories where the PSA 10 (or CGC 10) premium reliably pays for the submission and then some — based on the cards we send out every week through our grading service.
1. Modern NBA rookies (Prizm, Optic, Select)
Top-tier rookies like Victor Wembanyama, Chet Holmgren, and Scoot Henderson PSA 10 base Prizms sell for 4-10× raw. Any 1st-year refractor or silver prizm of a top-10 pick is worth pre-screening.
2. Pokemon WOTC vintage (1999-2003)
Base Set Charizard PSA 10 has hit $400K+. Even commons in PSA 10 from Base Set 1st Edition pull $200-$2,000. See our Pokemon grading guide.
3. Modern Pokemon chase cards
Moonbreon, Charizard UPC, Umbreon VMAX Alt Art — PSA 10 premiums of 3-6× over raw. CGC 10 is also viable, see our CGC vs PSA Pokemon comparison.
4. One Piece TCG Manga Rares
OP-01 through OP-07 Manga Rares in PSA 10 routinely 5-15× raw. Full breakdown in our One Piece grading guide.
5. NFL QB rookies (Prizm, Donruss Optic)
Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye base Prizm PSA 10 = 3-5× raw. Silvers and color prizms scale higher.
6. MLB top-prospect rookies (Topps Chrome, Bowman Chrome)
Bowman Chrome 1st autos for hyped prospects (Junior Caminero, Jackson Holliday) jump 4-8× in PSA 10.
7. Vintage sports (pre-1980)
Almost any centered, crease-free vintage card is worth grading even at PSA 5-7. The slab itself unlocks resale velocity.
8. Sealed product (CGC)
CGC sealed grades on Pokemon booster boxes turn $400 boxes into $1,200+ slabs for top-pop pristine 10s.
The ROI rule of thumb
- PSA 10 must sell for ≥ 3× raw to justify standard Value tier on modern.
- ≥ 2× raw is enough on Value Bulk (20+ cards). See bulk submission guide.
- Vintage: the rule doesn't apply — grade anything clean.
Categories to skip
- Junk-wax era (1987-1994) commons.
- Modern base of non-rookies.
- Anything with a visible flaw to the naked eye.
- Refractors with off-centering > 60/40.
