About PSA 10 Pokémon Cards

PSA 10 is PSA's highest numerical grade, described by PSA as gem mint: centering, corners, edges and surface all have to sit at the top of the scale at once. On Pokémon that combination is uncommon, because holo foil scratches easily and centering drifts across a print run.

That difficulty is why the gem premium exists. On many Pokémon printings the step from a 9 to a 10 is a multiple of the price rather than a small increment, so the grade — not just the card — decides what a slab is worth. PSA's public population report shows how many copies exist at each grade for a given card, which is the fastest way to sanity-check a price before buying.

Buying at PSA 10 removes condition guesswork: a third party has already authenticated the card and assigned the grade, and the sealed holder protects it from further handling. What you still need to confirm is that the certification number on the label matches the card in the photograph, which you can do on PSA's own lookup before you pay.

Why do PSA 10 Pokémon cards cost more than PSA 9?

Because far fewer copies reach a 10. Holo foil scratches and centering varies within a print run, so a large share of submissions cap at 9 or below. On many printings that scarcity makes the 10 a multiple of the 9 rather than a small step up.

How can I check a PSA 10 before buying?
